Listening to Jane Buxton read

Today after morning tea we went to the hall to see Jane Buxton.  Jane is an author. She read us her newest book called 'Harrys hair'.  It is about a boy called Harry who never wants to brush his hair.  Bugs, birds and insects make their home in his hair. The story is very funny and Jane is a clever writer who writes lots of rhymes in her stories.  Harry becomes famous in the book because of the zoo in his hair!
In the end he brushed his hair to get away from the paparatzy.
Jane Buxton has had way over 100 books published.  She also writes lots of stories for the School Journals that we read at school.
I like her stories.

Yummy Pikelets

Our Science Investigation involves lots of cooking.
Akomanga rua and toru are joining together to find out why bread and cakes rise.
Some great questions came out of our initial discussion.
Why does bread have holes in it?
What makes the holes in bread?
          How is baking powder made?
          How does yeast work?

We started by making Pikelets using the standard Edmonds recipe.
Next week we will experiment with other rising agents.
